The Ministry of Defense will be ready with its proposal for a budget for 2022, even before the new parliament is constructed, said the Minister of Defense Georgi Panayotov. He took part in the celebrations for the 113th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence in Veliko Tarnovo.
According to the caretaker Minister of Defense, the priority of the Ministry of Defense for next year should be the rearmament of the Bulgarian Army. He commented:
„As a percentage, we have allied commitments to be 2% of Gross Domestic Product, to reach it in 2023. It has to happen, we move on.“
The caretaker Minister of Defense also pointed out that he hopes that the tendency to include funds in the state budget to increase the salaries of servicemen will be continued. He is adamant that this process is very complex and does not depend on the Minister of Defense. Panayotov specify:
„We need to sit down, talk, see what the priorities are and propose to the Bulgarian parliament to approve a budget accordingly.“
