„I will wait for President Rumen Radev’s decision regarding the decree for my dismissal from office. I will also wait for the decision of the Constitutional Court and whatever I have to say, I will say it in Bulgaria.“
This was the laconic comment of Ivan Geshev after last night’s decision of the Supreme Judicial Council to dismiss him from the post of Prosecutor General. He is currently in Strasbourg for meetings with MEPs and a hearing in the Monitoring Group for Democracy over reports of corruption at the highest levels of power.
After the meeting, Geshev stated that they discussed important issues such as the rule of law and the constitutional state, corruption at the highest levels and everything that interests our European partners.
It was previously announced that the Prosecutor General will present to MEPs data on key investigations, including „Barcelona Gate“ and „The Golden Bullets“.
We remind you that two proposals for early termination of Geshev’s mandate were submitted to the Council. Last week, one of them was withdrawn by the six personnel officers who had submitted it. It was related to the presence of an Israeli expert at the scene of the explosion against Geshev’s motorcade on May 1.
The second proposal was made because of violations of the Code of Ethics committed by the main accuser. At a press conference on 15 May, he resigned demonstratively and said that it was „clear what political garbage the National Assembly is“.
