„As Prosecutor General I have worked only for Bulgaria, for the Bulgarian citizens and their security. I may have made mistakes and this is normal, I may have said something out of proportion. This is my resignation.“
This is what Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev said during a briefing and then he tore up his resignation and threw it on the ground. He also said that yesterday he had been asked to resign by 10:00 a.m. today, his family had been mentioned, that „enter“ would be pressed and videos would be published. However, the main accuser in the country stressed that he was not afraid.
„I am not afraid! The fearful die every day. The brave – only once. History remembers the brave. I don’t know if I am brave, but I do what I have to do, come what may,“, he stressed.
We remind you that on May 12, 6 members of the Prosecution College of the Supreme Judicial Council submitted a request for his early dismissal from the post of Prosecutor General. It is about Georgi Kuzmanov, Yordan Stoev, Kalina Chapkanova, Svetla Boshnakova, Ognyan Damyanov and Gergana Mutafova. Their motive is a serious breach of duty by Geshev in connection with the investigation of the assassination attempt against him. The proposal was also supported by prosecutors of the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office in Sofia.
On May 1, an explosion went off next to the Prosecutor General’s car, while his motorcade was driving on the road from Samokov to Sofia.
