„The caretaker government is ready with a proposal for the 2025 Budget, and this was announced even before the deadline for its submission to the National Assembly – October 31. However, meeting the deadline would not have led to the adoption of the budget framework in the 50th National Assembly, as it did not sit after that date, and the 51st National Assembly is still in its first session.“
This is what Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev commented at the beginning of the government meeting. He announced that the caretaker cabinet had submitted 12 bills to the 51st Parliament, among which four are on tax laws, whose adoption always precedes the adoption of the state budget.
„We will fulfill our obligation and submit a budget with a 3% deficit in order to continue on our path toward joining the Eurozone,“, Gavchev said, adding that there will be no increase in the main tax rates, and income will be raised as promised, including in the ministries of defense and interior.
Regarding pensions, it was clarified that they will be adjusted according to the Swiss rule.
„As you know, however, the budget is adopted in the National Assembly,“, Dimitar Gavchev reminded.
The Ministry of Finance is making calculations so that pensioners will receive support for Christmas in the amount of BGN 100.
Minutes before the start of the meeting, Prime Minister Dimitar Gavchev was assured by his Dutch counterpart, Dick Schoof, that the country would support Bulgaria’s full membership in Schengen. Gavchev explained that a procedure is also underway in the Dutch parliament, but the government may not agree to it.
Bulgaria is intensively preparing for potential accession to the land side of Schengen, with the Prime Minister and responsible border control authorities visiting the border checkpoints „Kulata“, „Danube Bridge“, and „Danube Bridge 2“. An operational headquarters was also created for the purpose of good coordination.
The outbreaks of sheep pox have been eradicated, and for the first outbreak in the Yambol region, compensation for the farmers has already been paid. This was confirmed by the Prime Minister. He pointed out that the rapid elimination of these outbreaks was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the farmers. The latter does not apply to the small ruminant plague outbreak in Velingrad, where talks with the owners and the search for options are continuing.
„There is also a political element there, all of you who are following the issue can see that,“, the Prime Minister noted and appealed for calm as much as possible given the current outbreak and the danger of the contagion spreading.
