The case against the mine related to Hristo Kovachki continues in the Supreme Court. This was announced by Greenpeace-Bulgaria. The farmer Emil Mirchev and the Municipality of Slivnitsa, supported by the lawyers of two organizations, have been defending the interests of the residents of Aldomirovtsi, who develop sports, agriculture and tourism in the region, for three years now.

The forced coal mine, if implemented, will seriously hamper these plans and destroy the already built infrastructure and sports facilities. In addition, it will pollute nature, air and water sources for the region, as it is in close proximity to the main water supply facilities of the villages of Barlozhnitsa and Radulovtsi, according to Greenpeace.

Who will use the coal and why is the achievement of the municipality and the local people being destroyed in order to give an advantage to a dying industry ?, they ask. The question remains unanswered after it became clear that the Bobov Dol TPP is giving up coal after 2030 and will not use the excavations in the mine near Aldomirovtsi. This was announced by the management in the person of Kristina Lazarova, chairman of the board of directors and co-founder of the From Brown to Green platform.

Apart from depriving the residents of Aldomirovtsi and the surrounding villages of food and the right to pure nature, the mine is in conflict with the government’s announced date for coal mining in 2038, as the concession is 29 years. If it is concluded in 2022, it would mean that the mine will work until 2051, the organization said.

„The future development of the town of Slivnitsa and the surrounding villages may be quite different – a little over a year ago Greenpeace – Bulgaria organized a sports competition in the area to support people. „Coal has no future, but it continues to wreak havoc as long as we allow it to do so. At its core, the transition beyond coal aims to create jobs in coal-dependent regions, Greenpeace reports.

They pointed out that the opposite is happening in Aldomirovtsi – already developed businesses are doomed to create a mine to exist for only a few years. That is why it is very valuable that there are people like Emil Mirchev and the mayor of Slivnitsa Municipality who are ready to oppose.
