„Since December, the loading and unloading activities of the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint have been returned to private companies. Thus, the state, giving it to private companies, loses BGN 50 million per year – that’s one children’s hospital.“

This was stated by the former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and leader of  „Unity“ (Edinenie) party Ivan Hristanov. He called on the state to regain control and carry out the loading and unloading activities at Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint.

„The will of the state was, and still is, to have state-appointed officials there and to guarantee national and European security.“

According to him, during the period when he was in control of the border checkpoint, he had to ensure that there were no fruits and vegetables with pesticides and that the route of drugs was stopped. Hristanov reminded that the road for drugs from Asia to Europe passes through Kapitan Andreevo and it cannot be allowed to be managed by an unscrupulous company that is managed by the mafia.

„When, in the middle of August 2022, several individuals dared to brutally seize again the loading and unloading activities of Kapitan Andreevo, then Minister Demerdzhiev sent two platoons of the gendarmerie. We have to ask ourselves whether these activities are so harmless that the Minister of the Interior had to send two platoons there for three months.“

Ivan Hristanov added that the head of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has no right to make such decisions on his own, since the state’s will to this day is for only state-established employees to work there and to guarantee national and European security, especially in the Schengen context.
