Nearly BGN 10,500 was spent on the business trip of MP Hamid Hamid for the so-called Prayer Breakfast last month in Washington, attended by Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev. This became clear from an answer to a question about the Access to Public Information Act to the administration of the National Assembly /NA/. The request was made by the former MP from „Democratic Bulgaria“ /DB/ Ivaylo Mirchev on 9 February.
The response states that: „Hamid Bari Hamid has been seconded since 01/30/2023 to Washington to participate in a forum on „How to Counter Russian Aggression and China’s Harmful Influence in Europe“ and the National Prayer Breakfast. The value of the expenses incurred by the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria (airline tickets, overnight stays, per diem expenses) amounts to BGN 10,442.58 (ten thousand four hundred four hundred forty-two 0.58) BGN.“
Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev was also present at the same two events in Washington. At the beginning of the month, the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office replied to Mirchev that Geshev was on a private visit, which essentially does not require an answer for tickets, overnight stays and business trips.
DB reminded that a substantial fee is paid for participation in the Prayer Breakfast. It is not known whether Geshev and Hamid paid for one and with whose money.
