„There is no rift between „We Continue the Change“ (WCC) and „Democratic Bulgaria“ (DB), our causes are shared. However, we have different perspectives on the way to elect the Speaker of the National Assembly. After concerns were raised about how we voted last week, today, „Democratic Bulgaria“ decided not to participate in the voting to give others the chance to elect the Speaker.“
This is how the Facebook post of MP Ivaylo Mirchev begins, continuing as follows:
„It became clear that the only way out of this situation is for absolutely everyone to take a step back and support Silvi Kirilov. Otherwise, we risk the formation of an anti-European majority in Parliament. Today, we witnessed the first signs – some started talking about „Belene”, others about gender laws and exiting the European Union and NATO. Look at what has been happening in Romania in the past week. There needs to be a reasonable majority to stop this madness and radicalism.
If any Bulgarian politician even talks about a ‘broken state,’ their place is probably not in politics. WCC-DB have governed for a few months, while Borisov has been in power for 12 years, so it’s not right for him to use us as an excuse. It is unbecoming for a Bulgarian statesman to irresponsibly throw away the first mandate and send us to new elections because it is easier for him.“
In 2009, GERB and Borissov voted twice for one particular MP not to be part of the anti-corruption committee. This MP is Delyan Slavchev Peevski. Back then, no one asked the Constitutional Court whether this was acceptable. By this logic, it can be safely said that Borissov is the father of the sanitary cordon, we did not invent it.
He could also ask Ursula von der Leyen, with whom he likes to communicate and exchange text messages, and she could explain to him how the EPP put „Vazrazhdane“ in a sanitary cordon in the European Parliament. Perhaps then he will understand that the cordon is a political action, not a violation of the rights of one or another MP.“
„Vazrazhdane“ submitted proposals for changes to the Electoral Code
