“There is no increased migration pressure. On the contrary, there is a lasting trend of decreasing migration pressure and I can share this with figures.”

This is what Kalin Stoyanov said during his hearing in Parliament on the increased incidents with migrants. In his words, in the first months of this year, 5,200 attempts to illegally cross the Bulgarian-Turkish border were prevented. In the same period last year they were 15 6000, which means that the difference is three times.

BSP leader Kornelia Ninova quoted an official report from the Interior Ministry to MPs, according to which only in January a total of 396 third-country nationals were detained, of whom 76 at the entrance, 109 at the exit and 219 were found to be illegally staying inside the country.

“This is in writing, in black and white and reads 396. The same minister a short while ago said 260. You draw your own conclusions and whether you should believe anything at all that he puts out from the rostrum.”

Petar Petrov from “Vazrazhdane” reminded that the monthly cost of supporting each migrant is 395 leva, which means that Bulgarian taxpayers pay this money every month for a stranger who for some reason is accommodated in one of the six centers of the State Agency for Refugees.

“That is why we wanted this hearing with the following simple question: are we, the Bulgarian citizens, going to pay 400 BGN a month to be afraid, to watch beatings and to be beaten.”

The hearing has now lasted three hours. Kalin Stoyanov welcomed GERB’s proposal that full-time Interior Ministry staff should take over the protection of our border, as well as Interior Ministry staff to guard refugee centres.
