“Since everyone is now measuring with a different thesis about the truth, we are starting to show data. And by the way, Mr Borissov can see it. This is the fertility rate, which measures the birth rate. Under GERB, these years, it is very low. GERB ends up ruling and it jumps up. Why? Not because something very dramatic happened, but because there are free kindergartens. Because people saw security. Because incomes went up. Because the minimum wage went up, many times more than during the GERB years. And, unfortunately, these statistics show that if we go back to the old model, yes, the demographic crisis will continue to be a problem.”
This is what Kiril Petkov from „We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria“ said during a joint briefing with Hristo Ivanov and Gen. Atanas Atanasov. In his words, if the new model was continued, where there was social policy and economic growth, the demographic problem would be solved. He clarified that the data were of the National Statistical Institute. He continued:
“A second truth I want to share. Here even Mr Peevski was more honest today. He said that there, no matter how many votes they have, they will talk. Did he say 160? While Mr Borissov said they would not talk. It’s time not to be ashamed. They should come out, even Mr Borisov should say – we are governing with Mr Peevski. There is nothing wrong, but he should say it. The whole Bulgarian people saw that there is no vote in the hall, where they do not vote together. There is none. So it is not a question of talking and not talking. The issue here is, as I say now with General Atanasov and with Hristo Ivanov, we will not govern together. No, we are together because we are a coalition. In their case, they are an informal coalition that will govern together afterwards. The last thing I want to give, again on the subject of truth, you cannot say „I didn’t know what the Constitution said“. You are the largest political party in Parliament. You don’t say to your MPs „vote, push the concrete“. This with the idea – „I don’t know who negotiated with the other team – the four ladies they negotiated with. I don’t know who Kalin Stoyanov is. I don’t know what the Constitution says.“ That’s enough. It’s time for people to take responsibility.”
According to Hristo Ivanov, we should ask ourselves why Bulgaria had to be sent to these elections. According to him, there is not a single political argument for that at the moment. In his words, they have not stopped talking to anyone, but it was important what they were talking about.
