The co-chairman of “We Continue the Change” Kiril Petkov announced in the social network Facebook that he voted against the removal of the immunities of the deputies of Jeyhan Ibryamov and Mario Rangelov. He justified his decision with the fact that for him acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov is a bat of Delyan Peevski. And more of Kiril Petkov’s opinion:
“Sarafov did not find time to bring charges against the members of GERB, BSP and Peevski, sanctioned under the Magnitsky Act. But he quickly, quickly fulfilled the political will of his master at the right moment.
Bringing charges selectively, at a specific political moment, is an unacceptable attempt at political pressure, and I will not give Peevski the right to choose who is summoned when.
Immunity as an institution was created for just such cases, when politically motivated accusations are used against political opponents. I am not going to pretend to be a judge in parliament to comment on whether the MPs are guilty or not, but I am sure that bringing this charge at this very moment is an initiative of Peevski and his masha Sarafov. I will not empower Peevski and Sarafov with my vote!
I have waived my immunity because I personally do not want to give any reason for anyone to have the opportunity to trade with me to preserve my immunity in Parliament against political actions or „favors“ that may prove too costly for the Bulgarian people.
Dependency is something I will not allow at any cost. Between falling into the clutches of Saraf’s prosecution and letting some other politician trade with me, I always prefer to be without immunity. However, this is a personal decision and according to the Bulgarian constitution every MP has the right to make this choice.”
