We want the resignation of Minister of Defense Stefan Yanev, said the Prime Minister Kiril Petkov in his statement today at the Council of Ministers. The Prime Minister pointed out that no minister had the right to his own policy.
On Sunday, Yanev said on social media that he would not resign alone. He clarified: „As far as my resignation is only a matter of procedure, I rely on the coalition „partners“ and the political force that allegedly supported me to move things along accordingly.“, he noted on the social network.
Criticism of the defense minister began after he spoke about Russia’s military action in Ukraine.
Kirill Petkov specified that three points would be discussed – the successful removal of 140 people from Kyiv, the discussion of the nuclear threat by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the resignation of Minister Yanev. He pointed out:
„First – no minister has the right to his own foreign policy, especially on Facebook. Second – my Minister of Defense cannot use the word „operation“ instead of „war“ for the situation in Ukraine. Many people have already been killed – soldiers who are younger than my eldest daughter.„
