The detention of GERB leader Boyko Borissov, his PR assistant Sevdelina Arnaudova and former Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov was done moderately and within the legal framework. This was stated by Chairman of the Supreme Bar Council Ivaylo Dermendzhiev. According to him, the Ministry of Interior expected to find evidence and may have found such, but this is the body that takes action to provide the prosecutor’s office with evidence.
„She has obviously judged that they are not enough.„, he added.
Boyko Borissov’s lawyer intends to appeal the detention as unfounded, but will stop there, Dermendzhiev added. According to him, the Prosecutor’s Office can resume the trial in case there are testimonies and not information from the gambling boss Vasil Bozhkov.
„It is possible that this will give a new impetus, but we must keep in mind that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office still intervenes in very limited cases, such as abuse of European funds.“, he said.
If there is enough evidence, the state prosecution decides whether to initiate preliminary proceedings and enter the 2-month procedure, the lawyer explained.
