The man captured as the perpetrator of the attempted arson of the company base of public figure Emil Peychev in Tsarevo faced trial today. He has been facing charges since January 2024. The arson attempt itself was carried out on July 21, 2023.
The defendant’s name is Marian Sekulov. He is accused of setting fire to one of the company cars at Peychev’s production facility in Tsarevo. Evidence has been collected for this. Fortunately, the fire extinguished itself 10 minutes later, otherwise the damage could have been huge. They are estimated at about 90 000 leva.
There was another car next to this one. In addition, there was also a motorboat nearby, loaded with 120 litres of petrol. All this could have had serious consequences and could have resulted in the building catching fire as well.
Various witnesses in the case were examined in court today and the magistrates and expert witnesses are to be examined at the next hearing.
The witnesses have pointed to Marian Sekulov as the perpetrator because a glove was found within reach of the attempted arson – exactly the kind used at Sekulov’s workplace. The DNA of the accused was found on it.
For his part, a law enforcement officer stated that he had personally identified him as the perpetrator from the security camera footage.
In addition to the prosecutor’s office, Emil Peychev himself has been constituted as a private prosecutor in the case. After the hearing today he told Iskra.bg:
“I am glad that the guilty man has already been brought to justice. I hope and rely on the Bulgarian justice system to take everything into account and eventually the guilty will face the consequences, as is the law!”
