“The government is worried about the possibility of live video broadcasts of the process of counting the ballots on election day, and as an argument to prevent this from happening, they point out the weak internet. However, this is a completely untenable argument.”
Entrepreneur Ivaylo Mirchev from „Yes, Bulgaria“ defends this position in his profile on the social network Facebook. He points out that there are at least 2 months until the elections, and in our country – 12,000 sections. According to him, the CEC can organize 10 mobile teams to go around all these 12,000 sections in 10 days and test the speed of mobile internet around each one. And adds:
“As a result, hardly more than 5% of the sections may have any problems. The reason – even in the most remote areas they are in schools, community centers, around town halls, in the center of the village, where there is a good signal (there are exceptions).”
After analyzing the problem areas, mobile amplifiers are bought (the price of one is negligible compared to that of a counting machine), which significantly improves the signal of mobile operators, Mirchev said, pointing out that many companies have had a similar practice for years. for its sites where the „signal is weak“.
„The problem is solved.“
According to Mirchev, even if there are a dozen sections with low connectivity, it is not a problem for the advocates to record the counting process and then make it public if there is a good internet connection. The video broadcasting of the ballot counting and the filling in of the election protocol are obligatory in order to take a step towards restoring the trust in the election process in Bulgaria, the politician believes.
