There has been some delay on the part of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works for the conclusion of the contracts that are to secure the approved energy efficiency projects for multi-family residential buildings in Burgas. The Ministry explained that the reason for this lies in the large number of approved projects throughout the country.
This became clear during a press conference to present the projects of the Municipality of Burgas, approved for funding by the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan of the Republic of Bulgaria.
According to Deputy Mayor for Construction, Investment and Regional Development Eng. Chanka Koralska, regular payments are currently being made for all projects that are being implemented. She expressed hope that the money will not stop and all projects will be completed by 2026, when their deadline is.
“Unfortunately, we as a municipality are the beneficiaries and we also want to ask this question to the state institutions. Given the complex political environment, it is difficult to predict how the payments from the EC to the state are going.”
According to her, everyone in the state is aware of how much the Municipality of Burgas has to be able to implement all the projects and expressed hope that a very responsible approach will be taken in this regard. Koralska admitted that there is a delay only for the 29 projects for renovation of residential blocks in Burgas, where contracts are yet to be signed. Nevertheless, a contractor is already being sought for these projects.
“The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works assured us that the delay is due to the large number of projects. We expect the funds to be transferred soon. We have started the procurement so that we do not waste time. The law gives us the right to go ahead with the procedure and we have taken advantage of that.”
The total value of the approved grants is almost BGN 77 million. They will be used to renovate blocks in the Meden Rudnik, Lazur, Slaveykov and Izgrev complexes in Burgas. More than 3,000 apartments with a total area of more than 300,000 square meters are expected to become warmer and more comfortable to live in.
