The non-governmental organization „National Movement of Bulgarian Citizens“ (NMBC) has submitted a report to Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev against Rector of the largest higher education institution in the country – „St. Kliment Ohridski“ Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov. It was filed with the state prosecution last week. The alert itself was spread on the social network Facebook by the NGO, as well as by journalist Sarnela Vodenicharova.

„National Movement of Bulgarian Citizens“ was provoked to turn to the prosecutor’s office because of the introduction of a new subject – „Gender Psychology“ in the curriculum of the students majoring in „Psychology“. Chairman of the organization, Yordan Gavrilov, explained to Iskra.bg that they found out about this by accident. The subject itself was introduced in the previous school year. It is taught by Associate Professor Nikolay Dimitrov.

In the report to Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, which is available to Iskra.bg, it is stated that from the schedule of classes prepared by Prof. Sonia Karabelova – Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, during the 2021-2022 academic year, the 3rd year students are taught „Gender Psychology“.

„With their actions, Gerdzhikov and his team violated the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria, by abusing their official position,“, the „National Movement of Bulgarian Citizens“ firmly stated. They also pointed out:

„Let’s remember that this is a kind of ideology that is prohibited by the Constitution, and it can be compared to preaching radical Islam, for which there are already convicted with effective sentences.“

„We have been dealing with the Istanbul Convention for a long time and before that, during Boyko Borissov’s regular cabinet, we came across and requested by letter from the Ministry of Education and Science whether this type of gender training was conducted anywhere in Bulgaria. It turned out that there was an NGO-funded program in 17 educational institutions across the country. We also raised this in the National Assembly. Then the lawyer who defended the medics in Libya started speaking on this topic. But we got the letter and even the teachers were rewarded for this thing. Given that there is a real decision of the Constitutional Court, this is a kind of forbidden ideology, because tomorrow Sofia University may decide to teach radical Islam as well,“, Yordan Gavrilov told Iskra.bg.

According to him, if these third-year students who have already studied „Gender Psychology“ are trained well, they can be used in any direction. Moreover, Gavrilov believes that this subject can rather be described as „brainwashing“.

Moreover. According to Gavrilov, the rector of the University of St. Kliment Ohridski“ by his actions committed a crime.

Iskra.bg contacted Sarnela Vodenicharova for comment. She pointed out the following:

„People of different sexual orientations have probably always existed – at least there is historical evidence of that. Even back in the day, when I talked to my relatives who are older, they said, you know, this or that – there weren’t many people, but you knew. They had families. They weren’t publicized, though. And right now, here for the last 2 years, with increasing force and intensity, something is being done that is abnormal. That is, relationships are being distorted. Such people used to coexist relatively peacefully, both with the Gypsies and with the so-called Turks, but now they are tinkering, analyzing, violently opposing each other. Opposition comes very easily when you bring one group out into the open and start waving it around like a banner. As a group that, you see, has had so many rights taken away – which rights, human rights, which rights exactly have been taken away?! There is a right taken away to show one’s genitals, to show one’s buttocks, to show things that are generally not accepted in our culture. In some African tribes this is normal. But it is normal from birth to death of a human being. And it’s natural and it’s not seen as a sexual thing there. Whereas here, sex is exposed to the point of pain, to the point of perversion. Why? How does this contribute to the quality development of our children? What does it push them towards? It pushes them to create, to create useful things, beautiful things, or to wonder exactly what sex to choose. Is this the end of the meaning of human existence?“

Vodenicharova is adamant that she does not agree to the distortion of relations, because in her opinion this is exactly what is happening. She shared what she believes students should study about these issues:

„I think it’s more about studying why this culture is being imposed so aggressively – where that imposition is coming from to trace, because it’s not very difficult to make those connections. I’m not sure there are textbooks on this – there are textbooks on 3rd and 40th sexuality, but not on this subject. There’s a need to study the substance of things, not the surface, because that’s the surface. And what’s behind that surface, what’s behind bringing people of different sexualities to the forefront – so obvious, so intrusive, why is this being done?“

Gavrilov explained that so far he has not been contacted by the Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the report. It remains to be seen how this case will develop.
