„Mr. Radev, you betrayed the left-wing people! By publishing the law on providing arms to Ukraine, you are dragging Bulgaria into the war.“

This is what BSP leader Korneliya Ninova said during a briefing in parliament. Her statement continued as follows:

„President Radev did not stop the provision of weapons to Ukraine and today he published the law by decree. Mr. President, you betrayed the left-wing people. In March, the president made the following statement, and then repeated it many times: „Whoever decides to provide arms to Ukraine and thereby involve Bulgaria in the war, must be able to face the public and explain what the risk is. Because the price is always paid by citizens.

We turn to President Radev, you owe an explanation to society according to your words said above. Why did you take the risk of dragging Bulgaria into the war? You betrayed the socialists, who are for peace, and who in two campaigns promoted you and made every effort to be elected – you as President and Iliyana Yotova as Vice President. The BSP will fight to the end against providing arms to Ukraine, because this is dragging Bulgaria into the war.

In this regard, we will appeal to the Constitutional Court. On December 21, we sent a letter of invitation to „Vazrazhdane“ to join because our signatures are not enough. If this does not happen, today we will refer the Оmbudsman, who also has the right to ask the Constitutional Court to rule on the unconstitutionality of this law. We will use all possible cases and methods according to the law – we will do everything in our power to stop this treaty, which essentially represents taking sides in the war and involving Bulgaria in it.“

A little later, Ninova announced that she had collected the necessary number of signatures for a referral to the Constitutional Court to declare the decision to provide military and military-technical assistance to Ukraine unconstitutional. The request was signed by 50 people’s representatives – 26 from „Vazrazhdane“ and 24 from BSP. The document has already been submitted to the registry of the court.
