There will be additional police roadside checks over the weekend. They will take place mainly at peak hours. This became clear at a briefing of the Traffic Police. Inspector Nikolay Krusharski explained that the action will be held on the territory of the whole country and will be aimed at controlling the drivers of motor vehicles, which on the weekends move on highways, first-class and second-class roads.

The reason is that during the weekends the traffic in these places is the busiest. Additional teams will be deployed during peak hours. Law enforcement officers will monitor for alcohol, drug and speeding.

Outside the hours of increased traffic on major roads, the control will be directed at the drivers of motor vehicles and trucks – in the resorts on the Black Sea coast. Drivers will be checked for the same things, as these irregularities are listed as the cause of most road accidents.

Fines for alcohol and drugs start at BGN 500 and reach BGN 1,000, as well as revocation of a driver’s license. The sanctions depend on the concentration of alcohol with which the driver is identified. When drug use is established, pre-trial proceedings are instituted. Then the court rules.
