„The request for the waiver of immunity comes two years after the Prosecutor’s Office announced that it could not investigate Petkov for the notorious declaration of his citizenship, as such a crime does not exist in the Criminal Code.“

This is how a Facebook post, published by Former Prime Minister and current MP from the coalition „We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria“ Kiril Petkov, begins on the occasion of the proposal of the Prosecutor’s Office to Ivan Geshev to ask for his immunity. It continues as follows:

„To the prosecutors and the security services: did you not understand that we are determined to make a comprehensive reform in the judicial system and in the controlled Bulgarian services, and that you cannot stop or scare us?

I am proud to have given up my second Canadian citizenship just so I can be a part of the change that is coming that after 30 plus years of lack of justice will finally institutionalize all the out-of-control and dependent justice and security system officials.

As for my immunity: I will wait for a commission in the National Assembly to be formed and put into operation, before which all the facts and evidence will be presented, so that all Bulgarians can see clearly and vividly how the Bulgarian prosecutor’s office is used for political pressure. The day before the committee makes its decision, I will voluntarily waive my immunity because I know I have nothing to fear.“
