We do not have government at the moment, we have follow-up. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov does not govern society, but follows it. He is not a dictator, but he is timid. This is what political scientist Parvan Simeonov commented to „FOCUS“ News Agency. According to him, the current question is when a serious new style of government came, which is more strategic with long-term goals, and not so much day by day as now, may meet resistance from the Bulgarians themselves. The reason – we are not the most disciplined society, ready to tighten up, make reforms and part with some of its wealth in the name of generations, to tighten its belt.
However, Simeonov belives that Bulgaria needs a different style of government than the current one – to be more strategic, more managerial and more modern. However, he is not sure whether the political realities in our country, public life and social psychology would allow another type of government. According to him, Borissov further demobilizes society, because it has learned that everything it wants, it can get here and now.
The Presidential role for Borissov would be the most attractive:
„Firstly, that it will be a benefit of his political life, second, it is fame without responsibility. From morning to night he will be able to go around and cut ribbons, and no responsibility will be his. You know that in Bulgaria the presidential powers are mainly ceremonial and have to do with foreign policy, something that Borissov enjoys. However, Radev is a very strong candidate. Here Borissov will try on some detours, possibly with an option for the BSP to prevent Radev from succeeding, and for the MRF to be partially put in power, for example, and then to help with the presidential election. The MRF very openly, even before the summer protests, offered its formula and they told him – step down, we have a better formula and there is a place for you in it in one way or another. But … Borissov may be good as President, but at the moment he is weak as a presidential candidate.„
