The director of „Pirogov“ Prof. Asen Baltov made a forecast that by the end of November the cases of coronavirus in our country may reach 30,000. Currently, according to the Unified Information Portal, they are 19,573 to date. Prof. Baltov’s comment is related to the new peak of the disease. In the last 24 hours, 290 positive samples were reported, which had not happened for weeks.
According to the director of Pirogov, we are going to the peak that was two summer months ago. And the reason for this is the loosening of measures around the world and in Europe in particular. He added that he expects a serious increase in cases over the next 15 days. He stressed that the weather had deteriorated a bit and this immediately paid off. Prof. Baltov commented that Pirogov is preparing for the worse scenario.
According to him, the National Operational Headquarters should be restored. And he, in turn, must prepare an algorithm for how to act from November.
Some time ago, Prof. Baltov had made a prediction that by the end of September there would be about 20,000 infected and it came true. Now he is adamant that at the end of November there will be 30,000, of which 7,000-8,000 are active. Currently, the active cases are 4775 according to the Unified Information Portal.
Therefore, according to him, a new scheme should be considered. He is adamant that closing homes, as it was in the beginning, is not a good option, because the work should not stop.
At the same time, however, he said it was necessary to tighten measures. He believes that wearing masks everywhere will not harm anyone and gave the example of „Pirogov“, where both doctors and patients are always with protective equipment.
At the moment, the emergency hospital has 30 people accommodated for treatment, two of whom have been intubated, and the rest are in moderate condition. There are no minor cases in Pirogov.
