At the moment, Pirogov’s capacity is full. This was said today by the director of „Pirogov“ Prof. Dr. Asen Baltov, who expressed concern about the work of his colleagues:
“I am worried about how my colleagues are working. In the last two months, everyone was calmer, relaxed. They decided that these things had passed and that there was almost no queue left. You can see that the number of cases has increased since the beginning of October, but this has not led to the mobilization of all colleagues working in the system.”
According to him, this is one of the bigger problems for doctors, as there are cases that cannot be detected by PCR tests. He believes that these people are dangerous to the health system. Prof. Baltov called for emphasis on the most important measures at the moment. According to him, the medics who work in the COVID wards are more protected because they are better equipped and know that they are in a very severe viral environment. He added:
„Unfortunately, the other colleagues who work in the other departments are relaxed and do not take serious enough measures. In my opinion, they should wear safer masks – both patients and all those who serve them. Probably two more vans will be placed in front of the hospital to test potentially infected with coronavirus. Now there is only one in the yard of the medical institution. „
According to Prof. Baltov, the other main problem is the increasing number of infected people in the last week. The number of cases has doubled – 68, of which 4 are in „Resuscitation“.
„Unfortunately, we can’t take more patients. After all, we are not just treating the coronavirus. „Pirogov“ takes on the extremely severe injuries of Sofia and the country. „
According to him, the opening of new additional departments is forthcoming. He assured that there were enough doctors in Pirogov.
„However, they are extremely tired. This is 6 months of continuous work. Unfortunately, there are very few volunteers who enter the coronavirus wards. „
He is of the opinion that the local restriction is currently the most effective and there is no need for national tightening of measures. Prof. Baltov pointed out that he had received information about holding a fair in Targovishte. According to him, he is the cause of a boom of those infected in the area. This has been noticed in recent days in Sliven.
„It is much more responsible to take certain measures on the ground. The Minister is doing a very good job. The director of the local RHI is one of the people who should determine the measures for the district. However, the RHI requires control. In some cities the measures are observed, in others not, we have no way of knowing exactly where this is happening. „
Prof. Baltov expressed the opinion that Dr. Mangarov „has little to do with the treatment of coronavirus.“ According to him, it is frivolous to claim that COVID-19 is „a simple flu“, but rather a tuned virus, ie. which was also developed in a laboratory.
On the Day of the Bulgarian Doctor, Prof. Baltov congratulated his colleagues on the holiday, wished them health, high professionalism and patience to fight the pandemic.
