This day is important for Bulgaria because we are the first in Europe with our own large language model on a global level! This is what the Rector of the University of Economics in Varna, prof. In his speech, Prof. Evgeni Stanimirov, who shared that he had the pleasure to attend a public presentation of the new Bulgarian artificial intelligence, created by the Institute of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology /INSAIT/ at Sofia University.

“The specialised generative language model has been created for Bulgarian users and will be released free of charge to all on Saturday. INSAIT has provided data that the technology outperforms many times larger open models from companies such as Google and Meta”, said Prof. Stanimirov.

According to prof. It is great that such things are happening in Bulgaria and our country through INSAIT is positioning itself among the leaders of technological solutions. He revealed:

“I had the opportunity to talk with prof. Martin Vechev /architect of INSAIT/. I shared an idea related to AI that we are developing at the University of Economics-Varna. I believe that we will find intersections for partnership for the sake of development of the whole ecosystem!”

We remind you that earlier today INSAIT presented a new generation artificial intelligence, designed to work in Bulgarian. Bulgaria thus became the first country in the European Union to have an artificial intelligence of such a high technological level in its own language, created by a state-funded scientific organisation. The technology can be freely used and implemented in the system of any Bulgarian institution, company or organisation, the Ministry of Education and Science said.

“This is a world-class achievement that shows what the capabilities of Bulgarian science and scientific organisations are”, the prime minister said, adding that the policy on this activity is consistent.

During the event, the scientific director of INSAIT prof. Martin Vechev and the Executive Director of the structure Eng. Borislav Petrov focused on several major advantages of the new technology. First and foremost is information security – Bulgarian organizations and society will be able to use the model without having to share their data with external companies. On the other hand, the artificial intelligence will work in Bulgarian and will be familiar with the local factology, culture, history and legislation. Products that reflect these linguistic features are many times more effective than universal ones.

The new technology has huge strategic importance for security and innovation development in Bulgaria. The creation of our own models with artificial intelligence is a priority for a number of countries that have yet to invest hundreds of millions in this direction, and our country already has a product ready.
