A peaceful civil protest will close the Burgas-Sozopol road in the coming weeks. The request of the participants is an urgent repair of road III-992, which connects Burgas with the villages of Rosen, Veselie, Ravna Gora, Yasna Polyana and Novo Panicharevo.
This was decided at a meeting that took place yesterday in the Sozopol village of Rosen. It was organized by Boycho Boychev, and was attended by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Sozopol, the Chairman of the Municipal Council-Sozopol, the mayors of the villages of Rosen and Ravna Gora, as well as representatives of the „Organization for the Protection of Bulgarian Citizens“.
The date of the protest has yet to be specified, pending the upcoming meeting between the mayor of Sozopol and the new Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Andrey Tsekov, on Wednesday. After that, an initiative committee of five people, in which the organizer Boycho Bochev also participates, will decide what the next step will be and when the road will be closed.
The idea is to divert the heavy traffic to and from the Southern Black Sea coast in the height of the season along the alternative and broken road to the affected villages in Sozopol and Primorsko regions, so that everyone can see what drivers in the region are subjected to on a daily basis. During the meeting Boycho Boychev said:
“More than 1,600 people live in the village of Rosen alone. All of us in the region want immediate repairs due to the extremely poor condition of the road, which is riddled with huge potholes that are impossible to avoid. This is a prerequisite for accidents and endangers our lives every day.”
He pointed out that the protest will be peaceful and participants can carry placards and slogans to appeal for urgent repairs. His words were supported by the mayor of Sozopol, who promised that he would give a report immediately after the meeting with the minister on Wednesday, during which he would again acquaint him with the intentions of the locals for protest and civil disobedience.
