Green energy producers in our country went on a national protest in Pleven Region. They closed the main road from Ruse to Sofia this morning in a sign of discontent.

The demonstration was organized by producers from the region, but it was joined by their colleagues from different cities of the country. Тhey are threatening to take their protests to the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) in the capital very soon, if they are not heard.

Green energy producers are unhappy with a new balancing scheme adopted by the energy regulator in May. It provides for a cap to be imposed on what they receive as a price for the electricity they generate.

Ivan Brezoev, one of the organizers of the protest, explained to Iskra.bg that according to the new scheme, if they receive BGN 450 per megawatt hour without VAT, now the ceiling is set at BGN 500 with VAT. Thus, they suffer serious losses. They also pay a fee for the transmission of the electricity they produce.

„If we earn BGN 100, we give BGN 101 to the state!“ I personally have a loan of BGN 8,000 per month from a bank, and this month I haven’t earned BGN 8. I also have expenses for salaries, accounting, etc.,“, Brezoev explained to Iskra.bg.

So it turns out that since May, the producers of green energy in our country have been operating at a serious loss. According to Brezoev, this will also affect the banks, because most plants are built with loans from financial institutions.

Moreover. Ivan Brezoev predicts mass bankruptcies of green energy producers. According to him, this is already a fact.

„We are bankrupt!“, he was adamant.

The producers are currently organizing their own association in the hope that their voice will be heard more. And if this does not happen after today’s protest, they have decided to expand the demonstrations and move them to the capital.
