„To start the repair of a busy section connecting the Northern and Southern Black Sea coasts at the beginning of the summer season is (to put it mildly) illogical. This is also a blow against the tourism industry and the people who make their living from it.“
This is what Burgas municipal councilor Mariyan Ivanov wrote on Facebook regarding the idea of the Municipality of Burgas to start repairs on road 1-9, in the section between the Cemetery Park and the Northern bypass of the city to the „Sarafovo“ district. This will require changes in the organization of traffic and, accordingly, will cause traffic jams in the height of the summer season.
On Tuesday, the press centre of Burgas Municipality stressed that the renovation will start at this time of the year, as only now the necessary funding from the state has been secured. Over the past three days, Burgas residents have been expressing their bewilderment as to why it has not been postponed at least until the month of September.
Ivanov also filed a letter to Mayor Dimitar Nikolov and the Municipal Council of Burgas, in which he asked if there was a possibility to temporarily suspend the repair works so as not to hinder the traffic in the busy summer months and to continue in the fall. According to him, the repair will have a negative impact on the summer season on the entire Southern Black Sea coast.
„Only one accident on June 13 led to a kilometer-long traffic jam, which further increases the conditions for road accidents.“
Earlier today, the Regional Directorate of the Interior – Burgas announced that in order to ensure normal traffic, the section will be provided by employees of the Traffic Police Sector. They reminded that there is an alternative route, which, despite its controversial condition, is a possible solution for drivers passing through the repaired section. This is a road passing through a turnoff from the Northern bypass for the 5th km. with an exit to Transportna street.
Today, drivers alerted Iskra.bg that the roundabout at the entrance to Burgas from Sofia is being managed by traffic controllers, as the traffic there is too heavy due to the repairs. All this affects the movement of cars in the city, which becomes even more difficult during the peak hours of the day.
