The ruling coalition committee made its final decision to replace five ministers – namely, the ministers of Finance, Healthcare, Interior, Tourism, and Economy. Kiril Ananiev will replace Vladislav Goranov. New Health Minister will be Kostadin Angelov. Ministry of Interior will be headed by Christo Terziyski. Mariana Nikolova will become Minister of Tourism, whereas Luchezar Borissov will replace Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov.

“We accepted the resignations of Vladislav Goranov, Mladen Marinov, Emil Karanikolov, and Nikolina Angelkova”, said PM Boyko Borissov after the coalition summit, adding:

“We propose Christo Terziyski to replace Mladen Marinov as Minister of Interior. Emil Karanikolov will be replaced by his deputy Luchezar Borissov. Kiril Ananiev will replace Vladislav Goranov. Ministry of Healthcare will be headed by the director of Alexandovska hospital Kostadin Angelov. Mariana Nikolova will be the new Minister of Tourism.”

Along with the five ministers, there are deputies who were also relieved of their duty and are soon to be replaced. Their names are yet to be announced.

PM Borissov said the new socio-economic measures of the cabinet will be announced at the beginning of next week. The state policies towards elderly people and expatriates remain a priority, he said.

“Some of the new economic measures will lead to urgent changes in current legislation as during the pandemic it got painfully cleary that many health experts, as well as the staff of a number of Regional Health Inspections, laboratories and agencies, work at minimum wage. The issue is yet to be discussed on Monday”, said Borissov.

Vice Prime Minister Krasimir Karakachanov said the priorities of the government are still being revised with some proposals of political party “United Patriots” been brought up for discussion.

The major shifts in the cabinet were announced amidst the protests of thousands of Bulgarians that are continuing more for more than 15 days. Despite the demands for resignation of PM Boyko Borissov, his cabinet, and Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev, such moves were not taken. The government remains unwilling to listen to the voice of the public.

The five ministerial resignations are a bid of the government to diffuse the social tension in the country. The protests were triggered by the public anger over the “handed over” public street in park “Rossenets” close to Achmed Dogan’s summer seraglio as well as by the public detentions in the Presidency ordered by the Prosecutor’s office.
