The recognition of the so-called DNR and LNR by the Russian Federation dooms the efforts to de-escalate the conflict in Ukraine to failure. This was commented by the head of state Rumen Radev in his Twitter account on the occasion of the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics that seceded from Ukraine.
According to the Bulgarian president, this leads to increasing tensions throughout the region. Radev pointed out:
„A lasting solution to this crisis cannot be found by violating international law and by military means.“
The Prime Minister of Bulgaria Kiril Petkov also condemned the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics that seceded from Ukraine. Against this background, a number of other countries have decided to impose sanctions on Russia.
