The Anti-Corruption Fund /ACF/ has published the second document in its Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office (SCPO)-Leaks series.

This is the protocol for the search of one of Petyo Petrov-Evroto’s properties in Sofia – an apartment on „Svilenitsa“ street near the famous „Osemte Dzhudzheta“ (Eight Dwarfs) restaurant, as well as an inventory of the physical evidence seized during the search of this and another apartment in the same building.

The procedural-investigative actions were carried out in the early hours of May 30, 2023 in the course of the lightning investigation initiated in the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office (SDPO), after a day earlier the ACF published photos received by e-mail of smiling Petrov and then Deputy Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov in front of the „Osemte Dzhudzheta“.

The data published today are about the physical evidence collected from only two of Petrov’s properties that were searched that night. Two computers, a mobile phone, typed and handwritten documents, as well as various media – CDs, tapes, cassette tapes, even a floppy disk – were seized from there.

The content of all information media is unknown.

This material evidence, together with the evidence collected during the other investigative actions, was sent on 09.06.2023 by the SDPO to the Supreme Court of Cassation. There, under the newly adopted independent investigation mechanism of the Prosecutor General and his deputies, the reports against them are to be administered by referring them to the Special Prosecutor in charge of the investigation of the senior heads of the prosecution. However, while awaiting the appointment of such a person, and after the investigation of the SDPO has been accepted by the SCPO under its jurisdiction (as it concerns other magistrates), the prosecutor Yordan Petrov from the SCPO requested and received this material evidence from the vice-president of the Supreme Court.

Thus, in the de facto authority of the SCPO, a lot of physical evidence of unknown content, which could potentially concern a number of administrative heads in the prosecution, including those of the SCPO itself, falls. Several witnesses in the SDPO investigation talk about whose connection with the criminal network concerning Petyo-Evroto.

To the collected material evidence from Evroto’s properties in Bulgaria, those from his properties in Greece should be added, after the SDPO sent European investigation orders to our southern neighbor, which also ended up in the SCPO. Those rumors on the sidelines of justice are said to have had much more interesting content, to which some administrative leaders in the prosecutor’s office showed an „unhealthy interest“.

„What was actually recorded on these data carriers seized from the properties Petyo Petrov in Bulgaria and Greece?“ We may never know. Given the manner of their administration in the current case and the multitude of publicly known data about what happened back in the years with physical evidence in landmark cases,“, Nikolay Staykov from the Anti-Corruption Fund team commented.
