“Today, the Bulgarian police sided with the legally established constitutional order. We did not allow tensions to escalate and innocent citizens to suffer.”
This was said by the director of SDVR, senior commissioner Georgi Hadjiev, during an extraordinary briefing yesterday afternoon. At least 27 employees were injured and more than 100 were treated on the spot. The criminals were confronted by a criminal contingent, including ultras brought from the countryside, he continued.
According to him, the police did a great job, once again preserving the civil peace in Sofia, despite the attempts of some of the protesters to get into a direct confrontation with the Interior Ministry and cause chaos. Commissioner Hadjiev stressed that the actions of the Sofia police were entirely within their legal powers. According to him, his subordinates were even passive at times. He added:
“At the cost of inflicting damage on themselves, the police have managed to maintain civil peace. Faces with masks and gas masks used hot spray against them. Stones, pavers and metal rods were flying”, explained Senior Commissioner Hadjiev.
More than 35 people were detained and taken to Sofia police stations.
“Most of them are from a political party for which the prosecution has requested deletion. They have criminal records”, Hadjiev said, referring to the Vazrazhdane National Park.
Today, the police sided with the constitutional order. With their actions, the Bulgarian police proved that they are on the side of order, said the director of SDVR and called on the citizens not to succumb to provocations.
We remind you that yesterday it became clear that the leader of “Vazrazhdane” Kostadin Kostadinov was detained. The SDVR announced:
“In connection with numerous inquiries from the media, we specify – KK (41 years old) from Varna was detained today in the capital. The detention is in execution of a decree for forced bringing by an investigator according to the list of the District Investigation Service – Varna. KK will be escorted.”
In their position, the Vazrazhdane party also confirmed the news of the arrests, but stressed that there were no criminal supporters among their detainees.
