The process of changing generations in politics is underway and this is evident from the fact that we will have a new political force in government, said „Gallup International Bоlkan“ CEO and sociologist Parvan Simeonov for „FOCUS“ Radio. According to him, the new force is led by relatively young people who have not been part of the political process so far.
For better or worse, those people who have known the political process for a long time, who came to the waves of protests in 2020, dropped out of the political process, especially the “Stand up! We are coming!” political party but also other formations, Simeonov commented. According to him, it is not very easy for the new political forces either.
„Democratic Bulgaria“ is in fact quite serious competition from the new ones. So we already have many new figures. Slavi Trifonov, who was new but at the same time not the newest as a public image. He was new yesterday, now there are new ones. That’s the guiding principle of the upcoming change.“
The main case now is whether the new faces will create new politics, Simeonov believes. In his words, changes usually come smoothly, with a lot of work and that is why we should be moderately optimistic. The sociologist highlighted the role of the BSP as an older and experienced party in the future government.
„The fate of the BSP is very important in this year of reckoning because the BSP has been the main factor, an unchanging factor in Bulgarian political life in all these three decades. If you ask me, the BSP should be very careful lest it shares the fate of the SDS. BSP should not force its historical luck and demand more from this situation.“, Simeonov warned.
The expert also made a comment on GERB: „I would wait until the local elections to see what is the fate of GERB, whether some processes of erosion, decay or not are starting. Frankly, many times GERB has been predicted critical days. It turned out that GERB is sitting stable. But the big question here is about Borissov’s personal fate. So the issue of GERB is actually the issue of Borisosv but not least the issue of local mayors, where the roots of GERB are.„
