Leader of „There is Such a People“ party, Slavi Trifonov commented on Facebook on the debates in the National Assembly on amendments to the Constitution. His post reads as follows:
„I am watching the debates in Parliament dedicated to amendments to the most important Bulgarian law – the Bulgarian Constitution. I am not a lawyer, but I refer to my right as a Bulgarian citizen. Because I am interested, as a Bulgarian citizen, in what requires amendments in the Bulgarian Constitution, why it should be changed, what are the proposals and who is proposing them.
They are offered by other Bulgarian citizens. The leading figures are Boyko Borissov, Delyan Peevski and Hristo Ivanov, as well as citizen of Bulgaria and Canada – Kiril Petkov. Like the one who fell from the eighteenth floor to the third floor saying to himself: So far, so good, and I say: So far, so good. Except, it’s not good at all. It became clear to me from the debates that all professional guilds and organizations, including highly respected constitutionalists, were against these changes. And they claim that if these changes are made, they will fall in the Constitutional Court because they are unconstitutional. So why does the assembly want to make changes to the Bulgarian Constitution that are actually illegal?
Why was there no discussion of these changes? Why were they created in the dark, hidden and secret, as something shameful? Why is the change of the national holiday from March 3rd to May 24th included in the changes? Why do I have the unpleasant taste in my mouth that this is another piece of crap served up by the assembly in question, non-coalition or whatever it’s called? Why? Why? Why?
Lately, I keep asking myself this question. I have no answers, and the situation is becoming more and more surreal. And the only answer I find is that we are currently, unfortunately, governed by inept, immoral and incompetent, greedy for power and presumptuous people who must resign immediately.“
