Today the Sofia Municipal Council failed to elect a chairman.
Two were proposed for the post – Greti Stefanova from „We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria – Save Sofia“. She received 22 votes. At the same time, six councillors voted for Plamen Danailov from „There are such people“.
There were two invalid ballots.
Recall that the meeting was demonstratively left by the groups of „Revival“ and „BSP for Bulgaria“ because of the „illegal dismantling of the Soviet Army Monument“. At the same time, the GERB-DSS said that the management of Sofia Municipality is in crisis because deputy mayors have not yet been appointed in the departments of Finance and Construction.
The meeting also started with a protest in front of the Sofia Municipality building, where citizens gathered to demonstrate their position against the dismantling of the Soviet Army Monument.
For his part, Metropolitan Mayor Vasil Terziev announced, „There is no will to move elementarily to really solve the problems of the city – no left, no right, no monument. These are the interests of the citizens of Sofia.“
