Tensions during the celebration of the National Holiday on Shipka Peak. It was also attended by Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, the Speaker of the National Assembly and deputies from various political forces.
As Iskra.bg has already informed you, the Prime Minister was greeted with shouts of „Resignation“, „NATO out“ and „Traitors“. Tensions escalated as he gave a speech in front of a crowd. Petkov called for unity, but was hit back by a snowball. This was the work of Vazrazhdane activists, who are also from Shipka, as well as Russophiles. Their actions interrupted Kiril Petkov’s speech.
“No one should introduce hate speech on this day when we honor the people who gave their lives for our freedom”, the prime minister told reporters after the incident.
He also categorically denied allegations that Bulgaria was preparing to send fighters to Ukraine. He stressed that our country must continue to provide humanitarian aid. The Prime Minister pointed out that there are women and children there who are in a very serious condition. Petkov did not answer the question whether he would resign. „Bulgarians should not believe the lies and attacks that are trying to shake society,“ he said, adding that there was enough fuel and speculative claims by some lawmakers that one should be released from the state reserve.
