President Rumen Radev has said he wants to hear from Prime Minister Kiril Petkov on issues related to the Republic of Northern Macedonia. The head of state did not specify whether he would convene a National Security Advisory Council (NACC), as requested by the prime minister last week.
“The more closely the government adheres to the official Bulgarian position, expressed in the documents adopted by the National Assembly, of the last Advisory Council, the more they listen to the voice of the Bulgarians in our country and in the RSM. The more responsibly we behave as an EU member and adhere to the principles of the Union, the easier it will be for us in our policy and decisions towards the PCM”, Radev stressed.
The head of state explained that the CCNS is a body for supporting dialogue and seeking a common solution in the name of important national goals.
“If a broad national consensus is sought regarding the PCM – it is not only there, but it is also strongly expressed in our society. The government should be aware of it. If a broad national consensus is sought regarding the Republic of Northern Macedonia, then not only is there one, but it is also strongly expressed and the ruling party should be aware of it”, Radev added. He added:
“If the goal is to support dialogue within the coalition itself and it is disrupted for some reason, it must be made clear what the reasons are. Is there progress in the Republic of Northern Macedonia under the treaty and is there a change in the positions of our European partners? The Prime Minister must hear this first.”
Thus, President Radev commented on the Prime Minister’s appeal on the topic of relations with the Republic of Northern Macedonia.
We remind you that Petkov calls on the head of state to convene a National Security Advisory Council and that the Bulgarian government will not do anything without a broad national agreement and in accordance with the coalition agreement on the issues of Northern Macedonia. He pointed out in his video address:
“All parties, all services and the presidential institution should participate in the CCNS. Foreign Ministry to submit a report on the state of negotiations between Bulgaria and the PCM. This report will also be discussed at the regular coalition council next week.”
“Only the National Assembly has the final legitimate mandate on the topic of Northern Macedonia, and this must be absolutely clear to the entire Bulgarian society and to our external partners”, the prime minister concluded.
