The employee of BGTOL at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint, who insulted a foreigner, was fired disciplinary. This was announced by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Grozdan Karadzhov. On Saturday, he ordered a full investigation into the scandalous case following information spread by the media about the inadmissible behavior of the employee in question.
Karadjov explained that it had been established that a disciplinary violation had been committed. According to him, it violates all norms and rules. In addition, it tarnishes not only the image of the ministry and the administration, but of Bulgaria as a whole.
The Road Infrastructure Agency has already issued an order for the dismissal of the employee, which is either being served on him now or is to be served on him today.
The footage released a few years ago showed the official in question insulting a Moldovan citizen crossing the border at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint.
The scandal erupted after the foreigner’s request to pay with a bank card, not cash. Initially, the Moldovan had a dispute with employees of the Customs Agency. According to the rules, they collect toll fees, vignettes and fines for violators.
The customs officers asked for help from the RIA employees in order to explain to the Moldovan why he has to pay a sanction of 36 euros, Minister Karadzhov explained today. He used the Republican road, but did not buy the necessary vignette. The violation was registered and the amount was due. He paid in cash, but at the customs counter, the deputy prime minister explained.
Karadjov also explained that his suspicion that employees of the toll department had demanded a cash payment in order to divert money from the state budget had not been confirmed.
