According to the law, the Head of the National Security Service (NSS) was obliged to provide the Prosecutor’s Office with the materials it had requested in writing, General Emil Tonev explained.

We remind you that earlier today the spokesperson of the cabinet Lena Borislavova announced that the resignation of Gen. will be requested. Tonev. The motives – the allegations that the state prosecution has requested the video recordings from the cameras of the Council of Ministers, according to the government, in this way the anonymity of the whistleblowers to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) could be compromised.

There are also suspicions of non-transparent spending of budget funds by the NSS, as well as evidence of illegal provision of video materials from the building of the Council of Ministers and the official entrances. General Tonev handed over the materials to the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office with the stamp „Urgent“ after it became clear that the Council of Ministers will be the contact point of the EPPO. They cover the period from the end of February to March.

A bill to change the powers of the NSS is expected to be discussed in the coming days. The ruling coalition finds the 4-year term for guarding former prime ministers and presidents to be incorrect. It is proposed that it be one year.
