My dream is to have a coordinated Balkans on all topics. This was stated by the Prime Minister Kiril Petkov during the meeting with his colleagues from the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Romania and Montenegro.
He also told Dimitar Kovachevski, Nikolaje Chuka and Zdravko Krivokapic that the region was under threat. That is why it is particularly important for us to be together now and to have such coherence at the Balkan level.
Petkov said that during the talks important topics were discussed, which became urgent during the war in Ukraine.
The Prime Minister is of the opinion that coordination in the field of energy is the most important, as our region is connected to and dependent on Russian energy. They discussed how to take liquefied gas from Greece and Turkey, as well as the connection Corridor number 8, which should be firmly positioned on the map.
Kiril Petkov believes that instead of discussing expensive military systems, it is better to create coordination at the local level. The goal, he added, is „to create synergies in our defense capabilities“.
Instead, all NATO members are discussing investments in equipment and aircraft. It is appropriate to develop a specific strategy for logistics, as well as to make joint efforts to make it stronger and more efficient.
