In connection with numerous journalists’ inquiries about searches and seizures in offices in Sofia, the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office (SCPO) provided the following information:
The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office is executing a European Investigation Order (EIO) issued by an investigating judge of first instance in Antwerp, Kingdom of Belgium, in connection with an investigation into an organized crime group, illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, laundering of proceeds of crime involving Belgian natural and legal persons and Bulgarian legal persons.
In this regard, the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office has requested permission from the Sofia City Court to carry out searches and seizures at addresses in Sofia. On the basis of an EIO issued by the Kingdom of Belgium, the court authorized the procedural actions, in the implementation of which the Ministry of the Interior’s authorities were also involved.
