The regional governor of Burgas region prof. Maria Neikova advocated increasing the penalties for intentional fire setting. This became clear after a meeting between her and the institutions on the issue.

Currently, the law provides for a fine of 200 to 2000 leva. Last year 5 such penalties were imposed on the territory of Burgas Region

“I amend the order of the regional governor, which prohibits the cultivation of pastures daily for the period from 09:00 to 20:00 for the period from 18 July to 30 September. In parallel, I order the mayors of the settlements to carry out ploughing, the creation of clearings, or the provision of a minalized strip of 6 meters in the settlements. For this purpose, they should contact the two grain growers’ associations to assist in implementing these two new points in the governor’s order”, the briefing added.

On average there are about 30 accidents per day in the Burgas Region. In the last few days alone, there has been a fire in the Banevo district that has spread over an area of 2,900 acres. In addition, there was a fire in the village of Livada, in Kameno, in the village of Dyulevo, Sredets municipality. There is also a forest fire, which has been active for the fifth day.

For the moment there are no reports of intentional fires and therefore no such pre-trial proceedings are being conducted.
