Representatives of Future for Tourism want the Minister of Tourism to resign or else they will protest tomorrow. They are not satisfied with the new conditions under which they have to receive the unspent BGN 16.5 million aid for the sector and claim that the new ordinance is absurd and the state has not guaranteed the amounts to the clients for the prepaid tourist packages.
Future for Tourism cites as an example the case of the Greek tour operator, which announced that it will not work until July 31, and if the government does not hear their demands, this could happen in our country. The Chairman of the Management Board of the association Pavlina Ilieva commented:
“Unfortunately, what we were alerted to a year ago and foresaw began to happen, the Mouzenidis case is just the tip of the iceberg. If this situation continues, it will simply happen on a much larger scale. Without wanting to instill fear, we just want to show a reality that is ugly if there is no action by the state.”
Dimitar Baltov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the association, added that the domestic tour operators are not prepared to meet the looming challenges of the fact that the industry has not worked for a year and a half and some tour operators may go bankrupt. Baltov added:
“This will create additional tension for tour operators who are currently working and have not yet paid back to the people of 2020, because this problem has not yet been resolved, as it was solved in other European Union countries.”
