There will be no changes in the Constitution. This became clear today after the necessary 160 votes were not collected for convening a Grand National Assembly to amend the Constitution. As expected, the opposition did not support the proposal submitted by GERB, “The United Patriots” and “Volia” parties. Surprisingly, even the MPs from „“Volia” did not support him. Their argument was that no changes had been made to the texts since its introduction.

Thus, the request to convene a Grand National Assembly was rejected by 111 votes in favor, 93 against and 8 abstentions, “24 Chasa” reported. It was surprisingly submitted for discussion before the state budget this morning.

Krum Zarkov of the BSP accused the ruling party of exposing the nature of power. They are exhausted, unimaginative, scared and ready for anything not to quit their posts. He recalled that the original version of the new Constitution had a missing preamble and a wrong coat of arms. In addition, the draft was submitted by MPs, who admitted that they had not even read it, and here it referred to Veselin Mareshki. Zarkov also asked to know why the commission that dealt with the project did not submit a report to the National Assembly.

According to the independent MP Valeri Zhablyanov, through these changes an attempt was made to deprive citizens of their rights, which is happening for the first time in the democratic history of the country.

As expected, GERB tried to defend their actions, as Toma Bikov said that the constitutional debate in Bulgaria was extremely difficult. He suggested that the Constitution would not be changed any time soon because such attempts had exhausted public energy. He also said that they did not accept the argument that the current parliament has no legitimacy to make such changes.

The MRF accused the ruling party of rushing to consider the decision to convene a Grand National Assembly in order to get rid of its draft new Constitution after the devastating criticism of the Venice Commission. As Iskra.bg informed you, they announced that there was no public debate on the issue. In addition, the amendments do not provide for those concerning the Prosecutor General.

The BSP demanded that Prime Minister Boyko Borissov be summoned to the plenary hall and attend the debates. They recalled that some time ago he had promised to resign when it comes to debating changes to a new constitution. Christian Vigenin demanded that the government apologize to the public, because instead of listening to his voice and resigning, months were lost for all lawmakers to deal with this project for a new law. He stressed that there could now be a new, functioning government.
