Three prosecutors are being punished for „deadlocked“ cases, the Prosecutor’s Office said. This was done in compliance with an order of the interim chief prosecutor Borislav Sarafov.

These are the prosecutors Ivan Parvanov, Stefan Hristov and Anton Radoynov. The first two are from the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office and the third – from the Sofia Military District Prosecutor’s Office. Among the delayed cases are „Barcelonagate“, as well as those for terrorism.

The team of eight prosecutors from the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office completed the examination of 55 out of 83 pending and suspended pre-trial proceedings for crimes of a general nature committed by judges, prosecutors and investigators, other persons with immunity and members of the Council of Ministers, as well as under Chapter One of the Criminal Code.

In seven of the pre-trial proceedings examined, serious violations in the timeliness and rhythm of the investigations were found to have been committed by three supervising prosecutors – two from the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office and one from the Military District Prosecutor’s Office in Sofia. The violations found give grounds to consider that there is a disciplinary violation under the provision of Article 307, para. „Disciplinary violations are: item 2 action or inaction that unjustifiably delays the proceedings.“

In view of the high public interest and in order to ensure maximum transparency in the work of the Prosecutor’s Office, the reports of the investigating team which contain data on established violations are published in their entirety, with the deletion of personal data and those which would affect the investigative secrecy of the pre-trial proceedings.
