The municipal structures of „There is such a people“ /TISP/, BSP and „We continue the change“ organized a petition against the draft ordinance for the construction of the „Blue Zone“ in Pomorie. This was announced in his profile on the social network Facebook Nayden Shterionov, who is the coordinator of TISP for the municipality. He was adamant to Iskra.bg that they are against the proposal of the local government, because it will not in any way solve the pressing problem with parking in the city.

Shterionov said that during the winter months, when only the local population lives in Pomorie, people have a place to park their cars freely and such a case does not exist. The problem arises in the summer, especially when tourists are mostly Bulgarians and come with their cars. This is expected to be the case this year as well, as foreigners massively cancel their reservations due to the war in Ukraine. Our compatriots visit Pomorie mainly for weekend tourism – from Friday to Sunday.

It was then that the problem with parking spaces was significantly exacerbated. According to the TISP coordinator for the Pomorie municipality, there are even cases in which tourists come, see that they have nowhere to leave their cars, and go to the regional town, Sozopol or Nessebar.

However, he is adamant that the way to deal with this case is not the one proposed by the Municipality. The reason is that the only thing that will be achieved with it is to collect money from the citizens, who, as now, will have nowhere to park their cars. Something more. They will be deprived of the opportunity to leave their cars in front of their homes for a fee. With the introduction of the „Blue Zone“ they will have to look for parking spaces and according to Shterionov it is quite possible to live in the Old Town, and find only in the New.

The municipal administration has not done anything to resolve the issue in the last decade, he also told Iskra.bg. According to him, there is a solution and it is rooted in the construction of parking lots. And plots for that were available. And he gave an example with one of 10 acres, which is located next to the roundabout for Burgas. With a little amount of money, the land could be filled with suitable material and used for municipal parking.

Another problem that the municipal structures of TISP, BSP and „We continue the change“ see in the draft ordinance is that it envisages spending BGN 1.1 million for the Blue Zone, but there is no plan-account for the expected return on this investment.

In addition, it will require much more human resources than the operation of a municipal car park. The purchase of a new machine is also planned, and according to Shterionov it can be taken second hand – as they did from the Municipality of Sozopol. In this way, instead of giving BGN 200,000, BGN 20,000,000 will be invested, which is a huge difference.

The interest in the petition from the citizens of Pomorie was very high. Only yesterday, 300 people joined it, Shterionov told Iskra.bg.
