The parliamentary group of “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” and the coalition “BSP-United Left” announced their support for the continuation of the compensation for businesses for the high electricity prices. At a meeting with representatives of employers’ organisations /AIKB, BIA, BCCI and KRIB/, “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” committed to support the inclusion of compensation in the special law on revenues and expenditures.

Employers warned that lack of support could lead to rising inflation, loss of competitiveness and closure of businesses. Funds for compensation are collected from the surplus profits of energy companies and will not increase budget expenditures. The BSP has proposed legislation to guarantee compensation not only for businesses, but also for social institutions such as hospitals, schools and kindergartens in times of crisis.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Dragomir Stoynev called for regulation of compensation to ensure stability and predictability. Both coalitions stressed the need for stable governance and a functioning parliament in order to implement the proposed measures.

Borislav Gutsanov from BSP stressed the need for predictability for businesses to plan their investments. “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” representatives also discussed other changes to the special law on revenue and expenditure to provide certainty until the adoption of the regular budget for 2025.

The joint efforts of the “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” and the BSP to continue compensation for businesses demonstrate the importance of predictability and stability in economic policy. Compensation solutions will ensure competitiveness and peace of mind for businesses and social institutions, while supporting the stability of the state in times of crisis.
