Readers of Iskra.bg sent a signal about the well-known Ivan Ivanov from Burgas, whose name made a splash in the city with the series of charity events he organizes and the road assistance service he offers to every point of the country. With all this, he created the image of a patriot and public figure who fights in the name of just causes.
At the same time, it is clear from the report to us that Ivanov also has a dark side, which is unknown to the public, as it is hidden under the mask of his charitable public appearances.
Our check showed that Ivan Ivanov is serving an effective sentence under Criminal case of a general nature №1162/2017 of the District Court-Burgas with a sentence of „imprisonment“ for three years. He was found guilty of unlawfully depriving his pregnant girlfriend of her liberty by locking her in a car and keeping her there for about half an hour. Ivanov was also sentenced to pay the victim the sum of BGN 6,000 as compensation for the non-property damages suffered as a result of the crime.
He and the victim lived in de facto conjugal cohabitation in the period between 2018 and 2020, during which the woman became pregnant. Ivanov did not want the child and insisted that she have an abortion, but his partner refused, the two quarreled and she returned to live with her mother and father.
That very evening he visited their home, where he advised her parents that their daughter should have an abortion, as the child would be born with disabilities as a result of taking “pills” on his part.
After a few days, his girlfriend, together with her parents, went to see a gynecologist, and Ivanov was waiting for them in front of the specialist’s office. After the examination, he convinced the woman that he already wanted the child, agreed that she should not have an abortion, asked her to return to live with him, and she agreed.
The two went to his car, but when they were left alone in the car, Ivanov started pulling the woman’s hair and punching her in the stomach with the desire to have a miscarriage. She tried to run away, managing to get onto the roadway, but Ivanov caught up with her, put her in the car and threatened her that he would take her out of town and never see her parents again.
He subsequently locked her alone in the vehicle using a remote and left her inside without her phone for about half an hour as he remembered he had an appointment with a probation officer. The frightened woman began banging on the windows, crying and screaming for help, which attracted the attention of passers-by. They managed to contact her parents, and they, in turn, contacted the police, who came to the scene and found the woman locked in the car. Noticing the gathered people and law enforcement agencies around the vehicle, Ivanov unlocked the vehicle’s doors with the remote control and only then was the woman able to get out.
After the incident, the witnesses and the defendant Ivanov visited the Regional Office in Burgas to provide information and explanations about the case.
For the crime under Article 142a, Paragraph 3, Item 1, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, the law provides for imprisonment from 3 to 10 years. The data from his judicial history show that he was convicted by Verdict No. 4/10.01.2018 under NOHD No. 1162/2017 of the Burgas District Court for crimes committed under the conditions of a real community from the Section „Debauchery“ against sexual privacy against three persons under the age of 14 and one under the age of 18.
