The „Vazrazhdane“ party has once again staged a protest, this time in front of the National Assembly building. The demonstration is directed against the adoption of the euro and the preservation of the Bulgarian lev as the national currency.

Supporters of the party as well as its MPs are taking part in the protest action. In light of the tension from the previous protest, during which the European Commission building in Sofia was pelted with paint and eggs, and some of the protesters attempted to set fire to the entrance. Security measures were significantly strengthened this time.

After the last protest, several people were arrested, with four remaining in detention under permanent custody. The demonstration in front of the Parliament building is expected to take place under strict surveillance by law enforcement to prevent further incidents.

Opponents of the euro adoption insist on holding a referendum on the issue, while the government and the European Commission emphasize that membership in the Eurozone will contribute to the country’s economic stability.

The „Vazrazhdane“ protest shows that public tension on the issue remains high. The topic is expected to continue being one of the most discussed in the country’s political agenda.
