The vote of no confidence debates against PM Borissov’s cabinet from earlier today lasted less than 2 hours, announced Dnes.bg, a Bulgarian news hub. The vote was submitted by the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) followed by an accusation against the government for its inability to handle pending corruption issues in the country.

The actual voting will be carried out on Tuesday during an emergency meeting of the Parliament which will decide the fate of the cabinet. Chances are the cabinet “Borssiov 3” will hold as only supporters of the vote of no confidence are political party BSP and the Movement of Rights and Freedoms (MORF). Their MPs would not be sufficient to gather up the need 121 votes in favor of the cabinet’s resignation.
PM Boyko Borissov did not attend today’s emergency meeting of the Parliament as he took part in the summit of the EU leaders in Brussels which is set to discuss the future plan for the economic recovery of the block from the COVID-19 crisis.
The Bulgarian left-wingers condemned the absence of the Prime Minister as the Socialist Party sought answers on pressing issues from the head of the government himself. A number of ministers took part in the debate, incl. Vice Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev.
Mr. Donchev said eventual resignation of the cabinet would lead to crucial deficits in the public. Political party GERB stressed a financial crisis is on the horizon and there is no room for political destabilization right now. The leading party of the ruling coalition also said the regular national elections are soon enough – during the spring next year.
Toma Bikov from GERB said the upcoming failure of the vote of no confidence should be perceived as a positive sign for BSP, which is struggling with internal conflicts demanding their full attention. It is time for the Socialists to decide what they want to be in order to properly prepare for the upcoming elections, he said.
Eventual resignation of the cabinet would lead to an emergency government formed by President Rumen Radev which is bound to lack a clear perspective for the future of the nation, said Mr. Bikov.
BSP accused the ruling government of refusal to address urgent problems in the country. Krum Zarkov said the ruling coalition shamelessly claimed that there are no corruption issues while civil organizations, the European Commission, and international watchdogs state the opposite. He said Bulgaria has become a kingdom of injustice waving „a flag of a 500 Euro bill with a “ladybug” displayed on it.“
