„We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria“ appeals the refusal of the State Prosecutor’s Office to initiate pre-trial proceedings for Peevski’s influence on the Prosecutor’s Office

„We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria appealed the refusal of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office to initiate pre-trial proceedings for Delyan Peevski’s influence on the Prosecutor’s Office.

In July, the MPs of „We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria“ filed a signal in connection with allegations made by members and the leadership of the „Movement for Rights and Freedoms“ about the violation of the independence of the Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office and its use for the implementation of political orders by Peevski against them, through coercion, affecting the private property and inviolability of citizens and their families. In this way, albeit very belatedly, what „We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria“ has been fighting against for years – the domination of Bulgarian institutions by Peevski and his other political partners – was practically confirmed.

The report against the MP sanctioned under Magnitsky included evidence of crimes committed in office by magistrates and officials of the Ministry of the Interior for the purpose of intimidation, coercion and pressure, property crimes and others.

The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office virtually abdicated its basic functions, not even finding reason to commission an investigation to gather additional information.

It is also unclear why the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office does not request information and explanations from the persons cited in the signal, the authors of the allegations of unregulated and unlawful actions of the institutions.

On the basis of the complaint of „We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria“, the „Prosecutor’s Office of Appeal – Sofia“ has the possibility to cancel the decision of the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office and to return with instructions to continue the actions for the collection of evidence. The coalition said:

“If this prosecutor’s office also refuses to act, we will appeal to the court.”
